APRIL 2009 NEWSLETTER

Message FROM THE PRESIDENT!

Well Spring is almost here. It seems that we just celebrated Christmas and a great New Year Eve party and it's St. Patrick's Day already.

How about the St. Patrick's Day dinner, wasn't it just great! Everyone has commented that the food was great and the entertainment was super.

John and Joan Record deserve a real thanks for this one. But, they have done it over and over again! Least we forget some of the newest members of the community. They have jumped in with both feet and helped with a number of events. We thank you!! If we all take a turn in helping, it makes a world of difference.

Now we have some spring events coming up real quick.

The big event for SOCHA is the Yard Sale on Saturday, March 28th, then Easter Breakfast on Saturday, April 11th , Easter Sunday, April 12th , the Blood Mobile on Tuesday, April 14th. and the Spring Fling on Saturday, April 18th.

So keep the dates in mind and check the Newsletter for all the details so you don't miss out on any of the fun. Get your tickets early for the events requiring them!

Let's see a record turnout for the coffee Saturdays in April!

-- Dick Ouimette

SUN COMMUNITY MEETINGS

A couple of important meeting were held in March, one for pet owners and the other for residents in the process of selling their homes.

The meetings covered the rules and regulations we all agreed to when we purchased our homes here at Saddle Oak.

If you forgot the rules and didn't attend the meetings and you need more information on what you can or can not do in regards to each issue, be sure to call the Office to get the correct information.

SENILITY PRAYER
-- Irene Kramer

For those of us who are getting a
little older:
God grant me the senility
To forget the people
I never liked anyway,
the good fortune
to run into the ones I do,
and the eyesight
to tell the difference.

If work is so terrific, how come they have to pay you to do it!

Saddle Oak Club Home Owners Association needs a volunteer to assume the responsibility of handling the Newsletter's Classified Advertisements.

We also need a volunteer to assume the responsibility of the Saddle Oak Club's Welcoming Committee, to welcome new residents to our community.

Contact a member of the SOCHA Board of Directors if you would like to volunteer!

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

Board of Directors meets on Tuesday, April 7th at 2:00PM.

The Saddle Oak Home Owners

Association meeting is Wednesday, April 8th at 7:00PM.

ARTS & CRAFTS FOR EASTER
-- Angie Bauman

We will be decorating eggs and baskets on April 3, 10, 17 and 24, Fridays 1 to 3 PM. If you bring a raw white egg to crafts, we can show you how to blow out or pull out and decoupage the real shell which Hazel decorates with quilling, which is her most popular item from the displays we have to show on Fridays. Also, her Easter cards to mail to family or friends or for a keepsake.

Dorothy Stout makes pastel colored spring tulips with yarn over plasticraft and Easter egg pins for your lapel and earrings, mini yarn baskets to hold your decorated egg to give to someone.

Kathy Smith crochets purses from plastic grocery bags and baskets in colors. She will be leaving Easter Saturday, so come and see if you are interested.

Call if you have questions, 854-4384 Angie.

CRIMSON CHARMERS
-- Fran Bolson

The Red Hat ladies will be going to Red's on SR200 on Thursday, April 9, at 1:00 PM.

Sign up sheet is in the clubhouse. Plan to join us!

BOCCE BALL AT SOC

Have you heard? Did you see? Surprising things are happening at the Bocce court, starting at 2:00 pm on Monday afternoon!

Gene Seeley & Diane Phinney are getting the early lead this time, and several teams are challenging that lead. New players are doing "wonderous" and exciting plays! Come see and enjoy! It's fun!!

-- Loretta & John Dawson

LADIES LUNCH
--By Nancy Dougherty

The Ladies Luncheon will be held this month on Thursday, April 16th at 11:30 AM. We will hold the lunch at the "Stone Creek Grill". The Stone Creek Grill is the restaurant at the Stone Creek Golf Course.

It is very new and very nice. We have reserved a private room with a nice view of the golf course. They are going to provide separate checks. The grill is offering a limited menu of 3 sandwich items because of the large number we usually have attending. The price is reasonable at $8 or $9.

Directions to the Stone Creek Grill: Turn right out of community on to Hwy 200. Follow 200 to 80th Street. This goes into Top of the World next to the new Publix. Follow 80th until you see the Stone Creek Golf Course on the left.(Beyond The Ranch and the theatre) Follow the road into the golf course until you see the sign for the grill. There is a sign up sheet at the clubhouse.

Hope to see many of you there!!!

St. Patty's Day
-- Marj Banczak

'Saints Preserve Us' and 'May the good Lord take a liken to you'.

Here's to John and Joan Record and the many volunteers who made the St. Pat's dinner celebration happen! Two days of cooking preparation preceded the event.

Corned beef, cabbage, new potatoes, carrots, the menu was about as Irish as it gets and likewise delicious. 140 tickets were sold for the dinner and 18 decorated tables of eager eaters attended. The dessert of ice cream and cup cakes frosted green was served along with Nancy Dougherty's Bailey's Irish Cream.

Entertainment for the evening was provided by the Sentimentals. Their name was appropriate as they played our kind of music.

Door prizes and 50/50 drawing completed a perfect Saddle Oak evening.

We again thank John, Joan, Nancy, Mike and many volunteers without whom the event would not have happened.

FMO INFORMATION As usual this message has to do with membership. The following is part of a letter written by Justin Joseph called IS THERE A STORM COMING? I hope you will read this as I will have the complete letter as a hand out at our next Association meeting. This will also be available on our Saddle Oak Web Site. (http://www.geocities.com/saddleoakclub/index.html) by the time the news letter gets out.

For many years the protection of Chapter 723, F.S.were utilized and there was some stability in manufactured/mobile living. As time passed, residents began to relax and that's when the changes began to take place. Park ownership started lobbying for changes; they pressed the boundaries of the law of Chapter 723, and they would threaten to sue the Bureau of Mobile Homes if any ruling was issued contrary to the park owner's position. While this was happening a new breed of residents had come to FL. People who hadn't been involved in the fight for Chapter 723, who had not seen what it was like before the protections were in place. They assumed it would always remain that way, so they didn't notice when the erosion of their right began to occur. Over time, everything began to change back to the way it was before Chapter 723 which is where we find ourselves today.

I hope you feel the same as I do and realize we need FMO to get our concerns heard in Tallahassee. Thank you.

If you would like to join FMO call me at 237-0877 and I will get you an application.

-- Bob Bull

ST. PATRICK'S DAY

I think we should all thank John & Joan for a wonderful St. Pat's dinner!!!!! What a great job, there was so much food, that even if you where hungry after that meal you wouldn't be. We should also thank the ladies, who help serve us. What a great job.

THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
--Bob Smith

Hats Off to Volunteers
-- Marj Banczak

People make this community!

There are many people in the community who deserve credit for an ongoing contribution. These people are our volunteers! They receive no monetary compensation, but they do, however, deserve our recognition, our thanks and our gratitude.

Our Board of Directors spend hours on community interests, activities, and yes, problems. It is a thankless job but they do it well.

Our monthly newsletter and contributors to the paper work at a job that is expected on a monthly basis. Advertising to finance the newsletter is sold by a volunteer who spends hours at the job. Other related activities include distribution of the newsletter.

The chairperson of special events such as bingo, bocce, shuffle board, bowling, and arts and crafts contribute weekly. Other various contributors work with activity tickets, printing and sales. The Sunshine lady has a daily ongoing job as well as the bereavement callers, blood pressure screening and the blood mobile. There are card game organizers, ladies luncheons, clubhouse decorating, the library care and Crime Watch to give further credit.

These many people make Saddle Oak the interesting and enjoyable place it is. A complete list of current activities and name scan is found at the front pages of your phone book.

So, let's remember to say 'Thanks You' to these fine people. It's a job well done.

SUNSHINE REPORT
-- Fran Bolson

I want to thank all the folks who provide us with cards to send to our shut-ins, signing them at Coffee Hour on the first Saturday of each month. The residents who receive them are most appreciative.

As we go to press, the following are in nursing homes: Lois Carson in Oakhurst, Charlotte Grundstrom in TimberRidge and Marie Jarest in Palm Garden. Hospitalized last month, but now at home are: Ed Armitage, Dan Carlin, Helene Roy, John Chergovich, Bernie Kozlowski.

Keep all of them in your prayers.

A note of thanks for your kindness - to all the nice people of Saddle Oak. The $10 gift card from Publix was much appreciated. Thank you, Mrs. Bolson, for your visits at TimberRidge. I am back home and feeling good.

-- Helene Roy
