“Thankful”, that’s how I feel after my first month here at Saddle Oak Club. You have all made me feel so welcome I feel like I have been a part of the Saddle Oak family forever.
The question I have been asked most often is do you like working here? My answer over and over is how could I not like it; I am surrounded by “WONDERFUL” residents and a “FABULOUS” team to work with!!
You have a beautiful community here at Saddle Oak Club and I look forward to helping you continue to have a home you can be “PROUD” of.
If I have not yet had the opportunity to meet you please feel free to stop by the office anytime.
Thank you all for welcoming me to the Saddle Oak family.
Kathy
Community Manager
Letter from the SOCHA president....
It’s summertime....and the living is easy at Saddle Oak Club!!
August...we all seem to be surviving the heat. Many of us have had the pleasure of meeting our new community manager, Kathy. I am sure everyone has made her feel welcome and we all hope to see a lot more of her around here. It is nice to see her and Joanne “popping in” on Saturday mornings to have coffee and donuts with us.
We had a “fun” July with a French toast breakfast, a 4th of July parade and pool party, Christmas in July. Thanks to all of those who worked so hard to make these events happen.
We have had many guests and visitors this past month and it is great to see so much activity in our community. Please remember to register your guests with the office and please make sure they know the rules concerning our pool, clubhouse and the driving of golf carts. We want them to enjoy our community as much as we do but we must all obey the rules. It is important to respect our friends and neighbors.
I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that all of the breakfasts, social events, parades, picnics, dinners, water aerobics, line dancing, bingo, preparing and delivering the newsletters , etc. are ALL volunteer jobs and we would not have these events if it was not for the great group of volunteers we have at Saddle Oak. Sometimes I think we forget to appreciate what they do for this community.
It won’t be long before we start seeing our northern friends migrating back to us. We miss them and look forward to their return. We have some great ideas for fun events this fall and winter when they return.
That is all for now...Luther and I look forward to seeing you around the neighborhood.
Stay healthy, happy and kind to your neighbors,
Tammie Hornsby
Some important things to remember...
Pets - Many of us are pet owners and we love our pets.
Please remember that our neighbors don’t necessarily
love our pets like we do sowe must keep that in mind
when our pets are ready to “potty”.
Pool - Please make sure your guests read and abide by
the rules that are posted at the pool. We want everyone
to enjoy the pool ...both young and old. Please make sure
that you, as a resident, are with them when they are at the
pool and most of all, be respectful to your fellow swimmers!!!!!!
Clubhouse – Yes, you can book the clubhouse for a personal
event through Nancy or Katherine. Please clean up and leave
the clubhouse as you found it. If you move tables and chairs,
please put them back as you found them.
14 – That is the age you have to be to drive a golf cart
around Saddle Oak Club. We have lots of guests and
grandchildren visiting us this summer and we want them
to have a good time but we also want them to be safe.
Please make sure, as a resident, that you are with them
and they know the rules and drive responsibly.
Register your guests – Please remember to register
your guests at the office. The office needs to have names
and length of stay in order for your guest to have use
of the facilities.

Little Gland, Big Impact
(from ocalastyle.com jun’11)
The thyroid is the butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of your neck which regulates your heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature and body weight. Many of us suffer from hypothyroidism, when the thyroid produces too little hormones.
If you have hypothyroidism, you want to avoid foods that contain goitrogens, which interfere with the thyroid’s hormone production. Some research shows cooking or steaming these foods deactivates the goitrogens. Here is a list of the most common goitrogenic foods to avoid:

BITS AND PIECES
AUGUST VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
This month our Volunteer of the Month is Terry Jansen. She helps with all the clubhouse functions, works in the kitchen when she can and also finds the time somehow to fly back and forth to Holland. Just being a member of the Board of Directors can be challenging. Terry does it all with a smile!
SUNSHINE REPORT
Thanks for the honor of being designated “Volunteer of the Month” last month. I have been the Sunshine Lady for over 8 years and enjoy doing it, but YOU ALL are the eyes and ears of this activity and I could not do it without your help. Please call if you know of any resident who is in the hospital, as I’d rather get 10 calls than to miss someone – for this is a caring community and we don’t want to miss anyone if we can help it.
Betty Cigrand is in West Marion, but expecting to be discharged. Sandy Fedak and Charles Doherty are in Life Car, Janet and Al Stacy in Palm Garden, Ellie Evans in TimberRidge, George Overman in Avante and Bunnye Brinson in the Bridge. Dorothy Lawrence, Gladys Ouimette and Eleanor Underwood were hospitalized recently but are now at home.
THANK YOU, AND YOU AND YOU….!!!
I would like to thank all the Volunteers who helped to make the Father’s Day Breakfast such a success: Kay Fiedler, Terry Jansen, Donna Frankes, Tammy Hornsby and Claudia Janis. Did you notice all the new volunteers we have??? Fresh ideas! Great job everyone.
Thank you, thank you Mr. Bill Evans for putting books away in the DARK! Your time is very much appreciated. Claudia Janis, Librarian.
***************************************
I would like to thank Linda Otto, Terry Jansen, JoAnn Barber and all those thoughtful hands who helped in decorating, set up and /or clean up of the French Toast Breakfast and Community Picnic on the 4th of July weekend. A very special THANK YOU to Harry Jansen, Marion Austin and Dieter Simmons for your willingness to be a judge at the 4th of July Golf Cart Parade. Thanks for your help! Kay Fiedler

Thank you for the expression of sympathy at the passing of my husband, Paul. An extra thank you to Fran, who went out of her way to get the card to me even though she had company.
Paul loved Saddle Oak Club from the first time we came here looking for a home. The kindness of the residents is just one of the many reasons he loved it here so much. Thank you again, Connie Anderson.
CRAFT DISPLAY
There will be a craft display on Saturday, August 20th at coffee and donuts. I have donations of yarn and sewing supplies from Peggy Coons to offer to anyone who is interested. Please help yourself to them. Also, fabric for quilting, sewing, embroidery hoops,
patterns, floss and beads from Lorraine Doherty.
Please bring any items you may have left from the Christmas in July show or anything you are working on to display for the November 5th craft show. Put your name on one of the four tables and we will set up on Friday afternoon or at Saturday morning coffee. Thank you, Angie Bauman 854-4384

A group of ladies (Katherine Sitkowski, Donna Frakes, Vi Simmes & Linda Johnston) went to visit our dear friend, Bunnye Brinson, at The Bridge on June 20th.
