WOW!! Once again we owe our many thanks to all the residents who devoted their time to entertaining and feeding us in the month of November. Let me start with the end of October...the western mystery play...we had such a good time with that play (even though we didn't all remember our lines-I wonder who that was???) Just so you know-Matt Walters was not really shot and Toots Lobe is not in jail!!!!!! It was a great evening filled with good food and lots of laughs. Thanks to Linda Otto and her many helpers.
Then we had the hayride on Halloween that Kathy, Joanne and Tom provided for us-both were well attended and it is great to see everyone come out and enjoy these events-and to our own Saddle Oak Steppers who danced a few calories off that night!!!Our annual Veterans Day breakfast that Mike and Nancy Dougherty chaired was a huge success and was a very nice tribute to our many veterans. After breakfast the Steel Drum Band that performed on Saturday afternoon was great!!Thanks John and Joan Record for making that happen again this year...and to Sun Communities for sponsoring that event.
If you have not had a chance to visit the clubhouse to see the Veterans Tribute board, please make a point to do so. Mike ,Nancy and Donna Frakes did a wonderful job with the board. What a handsome group our veterans are!!!! At this time of year we are most thankful for our family and friends and those treasured people who make our lives extra special...you all are part of that cherished group...at Christmas time and every day, we appreciate you.
In each of our days we find small blessings, but too often we overlook them, instead we spend our time paying attention to problems. We give our energy to those who cause us trouble instead of those who bring us peace. Starting now, let us be on the lookout for the bits of pleasure in each hour and appreciate the people who bring love and kindness to all who are blessed to know them.Luther and I wish you a very Merry Christmas and if you are traveling north for Christmas, please be safe and hurry back for a fun filled winter in Saddle Oak!
Until the next time, Tammie

In February of 2012, the Board of directors will be holding their Annual Meeting. During that meeting, the Association will be electing new board members.
The term is 3 years for an elected board member. Board meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month, followed by an Association meeting the next evening.
If you would like to become a member of the Board of Directors, you will need to submit a short resume. This resume will appear in the January newsletter. You should submit your resume to any board member no later than December 15th. The board members include Tammie Hornsby, Nancy Dougherty, Katherine Sitkowski, Donna Frakes, and Grace Spiller and Terry Jansen.
There will be a "Meet the Candidates" forum on January 22nd at 2 PM for residents to get to know the candidates and ask any questions they may have.
Please consider running for the board, we have many competent residents within our community.
You can make a difference!
Nancy Dougherty and Katherine Sitkowski/Nominating Committee
New Social Clubs
Residents of Saddle Oak have long suggested the we create social clubs consisting of residents from the different states. For instance, all residents from Ohio would belong to the Ohio Club.
During the November Board meeting, the suggestion was discussed and was accepted with enthusiasm. After a discussion at the November Association meeting, it was decided that we would have clubs determined by regions rather than states. For instance, we could have a Northeast , Southeast, Midwest, and a Southwest Club.
In January, we will be posting a sign up sheet for each region.
Once the Clubs are formed, they would each decide their individual activities such as dinner once a month, etc.

Needle! Needle! Whose got the Needle!
Loretta Dawson is our winner for last month. She found the needle on the November Birthdays and Anniversaries page under Terry Jansen's e-mail address. Check the newsletter every month and find the hidden needle. Submit your entry (don't forget the needle location and your name) and place it in the box in the clubhouse. We will draw from all correct entries. Just like Loretta, you may win a prize.
Veteran's Picture Board
There is still time to get your veteran's picture on our board in the clubhouse. We have room for expansion. If you have a photo to display, please call Nancy Dougherty at 237-4626 or Donna Frakes at 509-4162.

BITS AND PIECES.....
DECEMBER VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
Volunteer of the month is Kay Fiedler. Kay is a newcomer to the park but comes with a lot of wonderful ideas. She has already given a lot of fun affairs and is always willing to pitch in and lend a hand She stepped in to take over decorating the clubhouse when the people in charge left for the summer. She also took over water aerobics for the summer. It is a real pleasure to have a volunteer like Kay in the park!
THANK YOU, AND YOU AND YOU...!!!
Through tears of appreciation I accepted the beautiful quilt that I won at the Craft Show. It was made by the Wednesday Morning Quilt Group. It is a lovely rendition of a Lighthouse theme, and I love it! Also, thanks to Dick Ouimette for picking my number! Katherine Sitkowski.
I hope everyone enjoyed our Mystery Dinner and Play. A lot of hard work by David and Diane Anderson went into helping to put this together. I would like to thank Dick Sauvageau for stepping in to help direct. Thank you to all of our volunteer players. The ladies in the kitchen hosted by Jo Gearin did a wonderful job of feeding everyone a delicious dinner in a very short time. We hope to see everyone at another show in the near future. Linda Otto
I would like to thank all of the "Veterans Breakfast" volunteers. They worked very hard serving a huge crowd of over 145 hungry Saddle Oak residents. Jo Gearin, Toots Lobe Donna Frakes, Karen Sammons, Jim and Linda Otto, Matt Walters, Marge Putka and Mike Dougherty worked up a sweat in the kitchen. Karen Sammons, Donna Frakes, Toots Lobe and Mike Dougherty helped set up the tables and decorate Friday night. Thanks also to Grace Spiller, our official greeter, and Ann Marie Stanley for leading our prayer. Dick Ouimette played the most delightful World War II era music. Thanks to Tony Pace for selling tickets and to Katherine Sitkowski for 50/ 50.
Appreciation goes out to all of our Veterans who displayed their Veteran Memories in the library and those who donated pictures for our Veteran’s Picture Board. Mike Dougherty and Donna Frakes helped assemble the board.
They always say it takes an "army" and we certainly have a mighty army here in Saddle Oak. Nancy Dougherty
It was a beautiful day to sit on the lawn at the clubhouse and eat a hot dog and listen to the steel band. John and I had many volunteers helping us bring out tables. We put the grills under the trees and Linda and Jim Otto provided a popcorn machine. With permission from the office, Jim McCourry was able to block off part of 60th Street so the band could set up their drums on the road. We would like to acknowledge the following volunteers who helped us so the residents could have a great time: Tim and Bonnie Leahy, Dick and Gladys Ouimette, Jim and Linda Otto, Bob Smith, Jo Gearin, Dorothea Wiley, Karen Sammons for decorations and Tony and Ginger Pace for putting together the door prizes. Thanks again to Sun Communities and all who helped make this a wonderful Veterans Day. John and Joan Record.

DISASTER AVERTED!!
A popcorn machine was rented for the Music in the Park Festival. Mike Dougherty went with me to pick it up. We set it up Saturday and as luck would have it the machine would not work. Off to the kitchen I went to POP 25 bags the old way. On top of the stove Along came Mike and pitched in and helped - lifting pots, shaking pots and burning his arms. Without Mike's help no one would have had any popcorn. A big thank you, Mike. Also thanks to Diane Germain for lending us a hand. Linda Otto

SINGLES
Over one third of the Saddle Oak Community is single. The Singles Group was formed two years ago to give those of us who are single for whatever reason, a place to feel welcome and engage in activities that we would not want to do alone. We have gone to the theatre, sponsored pot-luck dinners, continued the Monday breakfast outing, planned Lunch Out once a month, and arranged a Single’s table(s) for many dinners held at the clubhouse, to name a few. Recently there has been a lack of participation and attendance at most of these activities, including our monthly meeting the first Wednesday of the month. We even delayed Monday breakfast outings because some people said it was too early. We were looking forward to sponsoring another pot-luck dinner in February, but with only four people at our last meeting, there was no way that could be arranged with so few people. Personally, I am at a loss as to how to spur more interest and participation. As a result, I will continue to arrange a single’s table at clubhouse dinners that have a table sign-up and the Lunch Out once a month, but will discontinue further monthly meetings and other activities. Maybe there are others who would like to “pick up the ball” and move forward. Our next Lunch Out is Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Red Lobster at 11:30. There will be a sign-up sheet in the clubhouse. Please join us. Kathy Smith.
CALLING ALL GOLFERS
Interested in forming a Saddle Oak golf league? I envision playing weekly, probably Wednesdays (not on Scramble Wednesday) at different local courses each week. You would be paired up with different people (gives you a chance to meet new people). This would be open to all golfers high or low handicap, tall or short, male or female – well, you get the idea. I know this has been tried in the past, but might be more successful with many new people moving in now. If interested, sign up in the clubhouse and I'll contact you.
Dick Sauvageau 873-4301.

THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
OF SADDLE OAK CLUB HOME OWNERS ASSOCIATION WISHES EACH AND EVERY ONE A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HEALTHY, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
A Sunny Christmas
Every year at Christmas time
There's not a sign of snow.
Instead we spend our yuletide days
In the sun's warm cheery glow.
We have the best of Christmas things,
The lights, the gifts, the bells,
(And "snowbirds" who arrive en masse
To fill their winter homes.)
The glorious weather fits right in
With our happy Christmas mood,
And we can also walk and run
Without having to be snowshoed.
So we don’t feel bad, Saddle Oak friends,
Who have no snow or ice.
We think our sunny Christmas here
Is a holiday paradise!

Yoga
Yoga is a fun way to regain flexibility and reduce stress. It does not matter what your body shape, size or age is.
You can learn postures and breathing techniques that bring energy and vitality back into your daily living. By gently stretching your muscles and breathing with the movements, you increase the flow of blood and oxygen throughout your body, thereby activating brain chemicals that produce joy, peace and a sense of calm.
Whether or not you can get down on the floor or sit in a chair, the benefits are the same. Everyone can do yoga.
So come join us for fun, laughter and a great way to start your day.
Yoga class meets Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. in the clubhouse. I look forward to seeing you all there!

The Elections are coming!
By Pam Johnson
There will be there (3) Elections coming next year
1) We will have a Presidential Preference Primary January 31, 2012.
(This is too narrow down the candidates running for president, on the Republican Party's side- and then waiting to see how the caucuses will handle the results.)
2) We will have 2012 Primary Elections August 14, 2012
(This will involve voting for the Candidate for your party that will run for President in the General Election coming up in November 2012, but also for local, state, federal officials will be on the ballot too.)
3) Our General Election will be held on November 6, 2012
More Basic Information for you:
A General Election is held in November of every even-numbered year. The Primary Election for nominating party nominees for the General Election is 12 weeks before the General Election. Additionally, a Presidential Preference Primary is held no earlier than the first Tuesday in January and no later than the first Tuesday in March of Presidential Election years. Special elections may be called at any time during the year.
We are very fortunate to have our voting precinct right here at our Club House.
If you have access to a computer, then you have so much information available to you at your fingertips. If not, that's okay as I will provide you with the hours, telephone & address to the Supervisor of Elections for our area.
We are in the Marion County jurisdiction. If you are interested in depth about our County, please refer to this website http://votemarion.com/

Lights! Camera! Action!
It was the best of nights! It was the worst of nights! But, above all, it was just plain fun!
The "Mystery Dinner" started with a delicious sit down meal organized by Jo Gearin and her crew.
Following in tune with the "Western decor", the Saddle Oak Steppers entertained the crowd, dancing to "High Class Lady."
Judy Miller delighted us with her own rendition of Patsy Cline's "She's Got You." Dick Sauvageau was next up with his juggling act. As the crowd giggled with delight, he "instructed" us on the art of juggling including the effects of "gravity." Annie Carlyle spiced the evening with her home grown humor. Annie, and her delightful laugh, was a crowd favorite.
As the lights were dimmed, "western music," played by Kathy Smith, filled the air. The narrator set the stage and introduced the "characters" (both on paper and in person). The play was filled with humor and drama. Including a murder and a "beautiful bride" portrayed by Bob Gearin.
The final curtain call, filled with thunderous applause, concluded the evening.
Special thanks to all participants for a lovely, lively and entertaining evening that will be long remembered.
