BEARS

A special thanks to all the residents that have been so generous in dressing bears and filling stockings for the children at the Salvation Army Without your generosity these children would have nothing. As usual the residents of Saddle Oak proved how wonderful they are thinking of the less fortunate

-- Linda Otto

THANK YOU!

We want to thank you all, so very much, for the care & concern offered to us. John's recovery from the "aorta aneurism" operation is near complete, & he is feeling good. We were very pleased with the professional care he received. Thanks again, for all your thoughts & prayers.

Loretta & John Dawson

IN MY OPINION
--Jim Baburek

Interestingly enough it seems that some people here in the community have forgotten about their fellow residents. The bicycle racks placed in areas along the clubhouse and at the pool are there for “bicycle” parking as I think everyone would agree. Why are there cars parked in those spaces? Doesn’t seem quite fair to those who ride bikes to our events. I have yet to see a bike parked in a car space!!!

SUNSHINE REPORT
-- Fran Bolson

As we go to press, Bill Moyer and Marty Wyllie are in TimberRidge and Marie Jarest is in Palm Garden. Others hospitalized last month include: Norma Shackleton, Marge Putka, George Overman, John Dawson, Kathy Smith, Robin Urtz, Eleanor Underwood and Charles Johnson.

We hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and will have a healthy and Happy New Year.

CHRISTMAS SHOW
-- Elaine Baburek

A big “thank you” goes out to Toots Lobe for arranging the Christmas Show trip.

The buffet was great with a variety of food and a super salad bar. The table arrangements for the show were also very well done. The show itself was excellent, well worth the cost. Hats off to Toots!!!

BEREAVEMENT REPORT

HARRY FEDAK passed away Nov. 24. He is survived by his wife, Sandy.

ANN WELDON passed away Dec. 11.

CRAFTS
-- Angie Bauman

We will be collecting your Christmas cards to make ornaments for your tree or wall with a crocheted edge and hanger. All it takes is a punch hole maker and yarn to edge. There is an example on our craft board at the clubhouse where you can sign up for Friday Crafts 1 to 3 PM.

We will also be making placemats with 24 of your circled cards if you are interested. Or you may donate your cards to the craft group - there is a wooden box in the library corner. Any questions, call Angie Bauman

With fond memories of a member of our group, Ann Weldon, who passed away December 11th.

FUN NIGHT

Has been changed from 6:00pm t0 3:00pm due to the cool weather!

Thank You,
--Diane and Jack Phinney

Friends in Need are Friends Indeed
By Marj Banczak

Ask Ruth Robinson!

It was a warm evening when Ruth Robinson asked me to take a ride in the golf cart to admire the Christmas lights and decorations.

As we drove through the streets of Christmas wonderland, the lights on the golf cart slowly dimmed. A bit later the machine began to slow down. Something was very wrong. Then without sputtering or coughing it simply died.

As we sat there in the dark, pondering our plight and what to do next, along came Bernie Kozlowski in his cart. He had a tow rope to pull us home and just as he was getting it attached, Mike Dougherty stopped to help. Bernie towed and Mike followed. All was well till we reached home and the cart needed to be pushed uphill into it’s parking spot. Suddenly, Jim McCourry appeared to add to the pushing power. The deed was done, the dead machine was back home once more.

Ruth would like to thank those friends who helped when we were in “need”. They are truly “Friends Indeed”.

A Birthday for Bunnye
By Marj Banczak

It was Bunnye’s birthday. Bunnye, our all time favorite person, is closing in on the century mark. Well, maybe it is only her 99th birthday but she’s getting close. We had a party! People came bearing gifts, flowers and food for the food pantry. And then there was cake!

Bunnye is a role model. She lives alone, drives her motor scooter to the club house where she still teaches Brazilian Embroidery. She always looks great, and when asked who does her ironing, she answered, “Why I do!”

She is one remarkable lady and we love her. The sale of 50/50 tickets is Bunnye’s job, she’s held it for years. Saturday morning coffee would not be the same without her smiling face. She greets you by name!

So heres to Bunnye, we expect her to be with us for that birthday of one century!

Again, she is one remarkable, special lady.

Something different for 2010. I've asked for suggestions for places to try, and this is one of the results. Logan's Roadhouse is on Easy Street, between McDonald's and Applebee's.

As always, new residents are especially welcome. Look for the sign-up sheet in the clubhouse after Jan. 1st.

RESUME OF

TAMARA HORNSBY

Objective: To become a board member and serve the residents of Saddle Oak in an effort to continue to make this a wonderful place to live.

Work History: Worked in office administration for over forty years. Thirty two of those years at Deloitte & Touche, a global accounting and consulting firm. I worked both in Human Resources and Office Operations.

In addition, my husband Luther and I owned and operated a charter bus company in Cincinnati, Ohio. We had 55 passenger coaches and mini buses that traveled all over the United States.

Personal: Luther and I moved here a year ago and we are very happy with our decision to make Ocala and Saddle Oak our home. We had planned to move to Florida after retirement and we looked for a long time before making our decision and I believe we made the right one.

SPRING YARD SALE

Rich and Mirta Harris have graciously volunteered to be in charge of our annual yard sale in the spring

Thank you very much.
-- Linda Otto

Hooks and Needles

A new group will begin in 2010, Hooks and Needles.

It's a time for anyone who crochets, knits, embroiders, does plastic canvas, anything that uses a hook or a needle to gather together with whatever project you're working on for several hours. It will be a time to share what you're working on, socialize with others, and basically not sitting at home alone working on your latest project.

Hooks and Needles will begin Monday, January 4th from 1-3PM at the Clubhouse and each Monday afternoon thereafter. See you then.

Kathy Smith

LOOK WHOSE CRUISING!

Saddle Oak and friends will be cruising to the Eastern Caribbean on Jan 9th thru the 16th.

There will be a meeting on Jan 4th at 10 AM at the clubhouse. A rep from Legendary Journey will be present to distribute necessary documents for the cruise.

Thank You to Sun Communities

Each and every year, Sun Communities has provided funds, which are kept in the Home Owners Association treasury, to help defray the cost of our events and functions.

This past year, they provided $4,000 for our enjoyment. Sun Communities is under no obligation to provide these funds. So, next time you attend an event which is “no charge” or if we are able to give an “extra” special touch…..take a moment to thank Pete and Sun Communities.

Their only request is that the funds be distributed so that everyone in our community will be able to benefit from them. Listed below are some of the events and functions that were enjoyed in 2009 because of Sun Communities:

Mothers Day
Memorial Day
