JULY 2010 NEWSLETTER

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

The Fourth of July is right around the corner, and many residents will break out the red, white & blue to commemorate our national day of independence. I thought I would spring a few trivia facts on you:

* Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey to be the national animal but was outvoted when John Adams and Thomas Jefferson chose the bald eagle.

* Over an estimated 150 million hot dogs will be consumed on the Fourth. That's roughly 1 dog for every two people in the U.S.

* Oddly, the majority of the nation's flags and patriotic paraphernalia in relation to the 4th of July is produced in China.

* The first 4th of July party held at the White House was in 1801.

* The 4th of July was not declared a national holiday until 1941.

* The national anthem is actually set to the tune of an old English drinking song called To Anacreon in Heaven.

* When the United States became a country, there were approximately 2.5 million people living in the country. Today the population is around 304 million.

I hope everyone will enjoy the Fourth of July Celebration in Saddle Oak this year. Wave your flags proudly!

A big Saddle Oak "Thank You" to Jim and Fran Fritz for hosting the "Old Timers Party". They invited residents who had lived in the community for 18+ years. Jim and Fran did an excellent job of organizing the party. They provided two cakes, a delicious punch and pens printed just for the event. Sun Communities presented certificates, letters of appreciation and pins to all residents of 20 years or more.

Pete has asked me to remind everyone that the remote controls for the entry gate are for residents only. This is for security reasons. If you have a continuous need for family to enter the gate after 6 PM, please contact the office as Pete may have an alternative solution.

Mike and I will be heading to Wisconsin soon. We will be there for only one month this year, returning approximately August first. It will be nice to escape the heat and be reunited with family.

Enjoy the Fourth!
Health and Happiness,
Nancy Dougherty

SADDLE OAK CLUB – JULY 2010

2009 CCR:

The water utility Consumer Confidence Report has been posted at the Clubhouse and the Office. The report may be viewed at those locations or request a copy from the office. Once again we are proud to announce that the water quality is excellent.

FERAL CATS: Feeding stray or feral cats is not only a violation of Saddle Oak Club Rules & Regulations but it is against Marion County Ordinances as well. Please let the office know if you see stray cats – we will take immediate action. Feeding stray cats is not an act of compassion…quite the opposite. You are facilitating litters of kittens that will eventually have to be trapped and possibly destroyed. Feeding them is an act of cruelty.

REMINDER: Any person considering purchasing a home in our community must be approved for residency by the office prior to buying a home. There are no exceptions.

4th OF JULY: Just a reminder…there are no fireworks of any kind allowed within our community. Please consult the local paper for a list of the various fireworks shows around Marion County. The danger of fire damage is simply too great. Please DO NOT violate this rule.

THINGS TO DO AT SADDLE OAK

SADDLE OAK SINGLES

Those attending the Hudson dinner theater on July 17th. Plan to meet at 9:30AM in the parking lot between the CVS and KMart, behind Payless Shoe store for the bus.

The next monthly gathering will be July 7th at 11AM in the clubhouse. Sign up for the Pot Luck dinner on August 14th at 4:30PM. The Buddy Check system will begin soon. Sign up on the clipboard in the clubhouse or call me to be included. You would be paired with a partner. One would call the other in the morning; the other would return the call in the evening. The purpose would be to check to see if everything is OK with the other. Memorial Day

Well Memorial Day has come and gone What a disappointment that no one in the community thought to recognize the wonderful men and women who have and are serving in the Armed Forces I really hope this oversight never happens again. We would not be living in this great country of ours if it wasn't for the people who have served and defended this great country.

SPECIAL VOLUNTEERS

Our volunteer of the month is Kathy Smith. Kathy has done such a great job of organizing events for singles, serving on the board and having her Hooks and Needles gatherings . We really need more volunteers like Kathy.
Linda Otto

THANK YOU’S

Thank You Jim and Fran Fritz for hosting the wonderful Old Timers Party for the residents of Saddle oak. It was great to see everyone who gathered and reminisced about all the good times in Saddle Oak. Jim and Fran (long time residents) have been responsible for many great events here. Also thanks to Sun Communities for the beautiful certificates and pins. Now we know why we have so many long time residents. They just love living in Saddle Oak.
Linda Otto

THANKS "Old" Old Timers

Thanks to all of you "Old" Old Timers and guest and helpers who came to the party we hosted on May 15th, 2010. We did not get an exact head count but there were many old timers who had not seen each other for quite a while because of that thing called "life". We ate cake and drank lots of punch and enjoyed each others company for most of the afternoon.

Among the guest were Al and Norma Bullard who were long time residents here at Saddle Oak until Al followed his dream to live on a golf course. Also Tamara and Rob Warren (our daughter and son-in-law) were guest both at our home and at the party and helped Nancy and Mike Daugherty who were in charge at our request and did a great job Linda and Jim Otto were also great doers and helpers. We could go on and on but we won't. Just thanks to everyone who came and thanks to those of you who worked so hard to help us have this party.

Last but not least thanks to Pete and Joanne, our great management team, from the office who got with Sun Communities to present a thank you letter, certificates and lapel pins congratulating all of us for being such loyal residents. We think we speak for everyone that it has been our pleasure to have lived in Saddle Oak for so many years.

We hope we have not slighted any one by not mentioning their name but just know we appreciate everyone's attendance and all the help. We also hope that you enjoy the pens we gave as our gift to you. God Bless to each one of you.
Fran and Jim Fritz

The Kitty is Home

Thanks to all the nice people who helped me look for my Escaped Cat! Everyone was so aware of her and my search! Lucinda was gone for 22 days, and then came home looking for something to eat. I am so glad to have her home! Thank you all for watching for her and giving me encouraging words- which really helped. Needless to say, she is being watched carefully so this is NOT repeated!
Diane Anderson

Recognition and Thank You’s

While volunteering in June for Saturday Morning Coffee, Bunnye Brinson informed me that 25 years ago on June 5th was the First Saturday we gave a complimentary breakfast and announced names of all who celebrate in June!! Join us on the first Saturday of the month to share in this tradition. A Thank You for 5 bags of donated materials to the Crafts group from a friendly neighbor in Fair View Park. The yarn was passed on to Dorothy Stout, cut-out of materials to Hazel Wickstrom, fabric pieces to Maryann O’Donnell, and ribbons, laces, flowers kept for the use of the craft group. Thanks very much for the generous donation. We will all make very good use of the supplies.

One More Thank you

Tony and I would like to thank all of the people who sent us cards when our son John Paul passed away. You don’t know how many friends you have until something like this happens. Thank you all again.
Barbara and tony Pollard
