JUNE 2010 NEWSLETTER

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

June is here! Half of 2010 is about gone! I remember when I was a child determining that in the year 2000, I would be 53 year old. How ancient I would be! How silly I was! Time has a way of fleeting past us.

Thank you to Dorothea Wiley and her crew for a wonderful Mother's Day dinner. The food was wonderful and a good time was had by all.

Father's Day is creeping up. Thoughts of my father are always on my mind. He was born a simple potato farmer of Polish and Bohemian descent. He joined the service at age 17, during WWII, because that was what his generation did. He was a most intelligent man---reading was his passion. He would have made an excellent engineer had the times been different. He married my mother, the love of his life, during a sporadic week-end leave from the navy. They had 44 wonderful years and 4 children to show for it! So, on this Father's Day, June 20th, remember your father and the legacy he has left you.

Attention all artists----don't foget the "Wall Painting" contest. We are taking entries to decorate/paint the block wall at the end of 58th Place. There will be a $25 prize.

Let's have a good turn out for Saturday AM coffee this summer. We still need volunteers to serve coffee for July, August and September. Please sign up in the clubhouse. Saturday morning is a good time to socialize, find out the news, and have a doughnut!

Health and Happiness,
Nancy Dougherty

THINGS TO DO AT SADDLE OAK

SADDLE OAK SINGLES

The next monthly meeting for the Saddle Oak Singles will be June 2nd at 11AM in the clubhouse. We'd like to talk about possibly creating an information sheet/packet for any new single residents moving into Saddle Oak Club. Bring your ideas with you about what should be included. We also need to discuss the upcoming pot luck dinner for our group in August.

The breakfast schedule for June:
June 7 - Bob Evans
June 14 - Mimi's Cafe
June 21 - Cracker Barrel
June 28 - Steak & Shake

Lunch Out in June will be at the Grand Buffet VIII (on Route 200 next to the Olive Garden) on Thursday, June 24th at 11:00AM. Sign up on the clipboard if you plan on attending.

If you would like to participate in a Buddy Check, sign up on the clipboard in the clubhouse or call me to be added. You would be paired with a partner. One would call the other in the morning; the other would return the call in the evening. The purpose would be to check to see if everything is OK with the other. We would like to start the buddy check in July. Others could always be added later. No one should have to fear something happening and not being found for days.

All Saddle Oak Club residents who are single, male or female, are welcome to participate in any of our activities. Our purpose is to enjoy activities as a group and have a good time. Any questions or comments, feel free to call.

Arts & Crafts

For the Summer I think breaking my wrist and carpel tunnel surgeries have made me a permanent resident here now and won’t be driving back to my former home in Cleveland, Ohio after 18 years. But it was nice having my daughter and grandsons visit me for Easter and Rene and Rick are close in Bonita Springs, FL.

So we will be having projects on the Craft Board that we’re working on Fridays - 1 to 3 o’clock - in the coolness of the clubhouse.

If you are interested, bring anything you are working on, new ideas or olds ones, that Dorothy Stout or I can help you with, as we also have supplies to offer just by calling us.

In June, July and August there will not be a craft display at the 3rd Saturday morning coffee. In September we will start preparing for the new gift items for the Christmas show in November.
