JUNE 2009 NEWSLETTER

President's Message

Well we are more than half way through May and up until a few days ago we were looking for some rain.
Now we got it, so we should be thankful that we don't have to water for a while.
Sporting events such as bowling, bocce ball, shuffleboard has ended for the summer. Congratulations to the teams in first and second place. But more important than winning is the participation factor. If we all join in we can have a great time, meet new people and enjoy the time we have. It's fun and good exercise.
Speaking of which we have Outdoor Game Night coming up on Thursday nights at 7:00pm. See the flyer in the Newsletter and come join the fun or if you prefer just come out and watch the fun!
Remember we have Flag Day and Father's Day coming up in June. The Ice Cream Social is also on June 21st, Father's Day at 2:00pm, at the Clubhouse.
Those families traveling back up North for the summer months be careful and have a good summer, we'll see you again in the fall.

From Your Editors

We thought it might be nice to add a recipe corner to the Newsletter. Residents could share their recipes. You would just email your recipe to the Newsletter and from the recipes received, one will be selected to appear in the Newsletter.
The other idea is that of a Gourmet Club where 4 couples could meet at each others house and have a dinner. Dinners would be 4 times a year. Oct, Dec, Feb and Apr. Theme of the dinner and menu set by host couple. If interested send your name via email to the Newsletter. We may also post a signup sheet in the clubhouse. More info if we get enough participation.

Good Mosquitoes ?

I was at a deck party awhile back, and the bugs were having a ball biting everyone. A man at the party sprayed the lawn and deck floor with Listerine, and the little demons disappeared. The next year I filled a 4-ounce spray bottle and used it around my seat whenever I saw mosquitoes.. And voila! That worked as well.. It worked at a picnic where we sprayed the area around the food table, the children's swing area, and the standing water nearby. During the summer, I don't leave home without it.....Pass it on.

OUR FRIEND'S COMMENTS: I tried this on my deck and around all of my doors. It works - in fact, it killed them instantly. I bought my bottle from Target and it cost me $1.89. It really doesn't take much, and it is a big bottle, too; so it is not as expensive to use as the can of Bug-spray you buy that doesn't last 30 minutes. So, try this, please. It will last a couple of days. Don't spray directly on a wood door (like your front door), but spray around the frame. Spray around the window frames, and even inside the dog house. Now these are Good Mosquitoes!!!

We Missed You!

PSS....... There was one person who was missed in thanking those who volunteered to help at the Yard sale and that was my Grandson, Steven. He volunteered to help and he did everything that was asked of him with a smile on his face. He always enjoys volunteering here at the park for any occasion. Thanks honey, You did a great job.

BOCCE BALL
By Diane Phinney

Our Bocce Ball games were all so much fun!
We owe it all to the hard work of John and Lorretta Dawson.
They set up all the scheduling and kept score of the games played.
John worked every week on the court and it was always ready to go!
Due to an emergency they had to leave before we finished the season.

Jack Phinney and Harold Whritenour continued on with the last few games.

Winner were the team of Gene Seeley & Diane Phinney. Tied for second place was Sandra Pelchat & Harold Whritenour and Judy Miller & Jim Westcott.

The last game the sprinkler system went off - that was a hoot, everyone running in every direction, only to run into another sprinkler. We all got wet but it felt good. The games continued even though we were all wet.

Thanks again to all who participated!

From The Change-Your-Life Quote Book

There are two kinds of people:
Those who don't do what they want to do, so they write down in a diary what they haven't done, an those who haven't time to write about it because they're busy doing it.

SUNSHINE REPORT
-- Fran Bolson

Quite a few folk in our community have been sick this past month. Those in nursing homes include Marie Jarest, Charlotte Grundstrom, Jeanne Koslowski, John Chergovich, Marge Whritenour. Those hospitalized include George Glenn, Don Hall, Kathy Holly, Elsie Roberson, Amos Kentfield, Tom Urtz, Hal Geckle, Fran Gerken, and I believe that they are all at home recuperating at this time. Joan Ford will be going in for a hip replacement this month. Keep all these folks in your prayers.

Bowling News

Our bowling season has come to an end for the season. The first place team were the Bull Dogs.
Ed Giegrich, Sylvia Butler, Fran Bolson and Dick McCormick.
Congratulations to all of them.

Fran mentioned to me that in all the years she has been bowling, she never came in lst. Her husband did but not her. Also, Chris McCormick was competing for first place against her husband, but his team won. She was high average in woman l46.

All the teams did very well this year with very close scores.
Congratulations to all! See you next season.

Check the newsletter in September for our meeting for fall league. The league will start the lst Tuesday in October. If anyone is interested in bowling, let Ginger or Tony Pace know. We have twelve teams and hoping for more.

Thank you and have a great summer.
Ginger Pace, Sec'y.
