The weather is almost perfect this time of year.
Warm days and cool nights make for easy living.
One of our favorite pastimes is visiting the community
pool. I would like to review the pool rules
with you:
1. Shower before entering the pool.
2. No diving
3. No running in the pool area
4. No jumping in the pool
5. No food, drink or animals in the pool or on
the pool deck.
6. No children in pool except with residents.
7. Emergency phone and first aid in the club
house.
In April, we had 2 residents that chaired an event
for the first time. Both were extremely successful!
Terry Jansen organized our wonderful Easter
Brunch and Karen Sammons managed a most
entertaining Tea Party/Fashion Show.
I think they would both agree that it is a lot of work
but most rewarding. Just jump in with both feet
and you will have plenty of help to carry your
project through. Thanks to both of you.
Safe travels to all of our residents who are
"packing up" for the trip North. Be careful and
have a good summer. See you in the fall.
Health and Happiness!

"OLD" OLD TIMERS
"Old" old timers does not mean how old you are in
years but how many years you have lived in Saddle
Oak (Saddle Brook as it was called in the beginning).
On May 15th, 2010 at 2:00 p.m.(with help from Nancy
Dougherty) I would like everyone who moved here
before Dec. 31st, 1991 to gather in the clubhouse for
cake, coffee and/or punch to reminisce and catch up on
what is happening in our lives. Many of us old timers
do not get to the clubhouse or the pool very often if at
all anymore. Some of us do not see each other unless
we run into one another at Publix.
I am not selling tickets for this event but may ask for a
small donation to help pay for the refreshments and
supplies. I would like for those of you who did move into
Saddle Oak on or before Dec. 31st, 1991 to call me at
237-5931. I have called a few of you but would still like
for you to call me if you plan to come to this event. The
reason for the 1991 cut off date is most of you have
already been here 20 years or soon will be.
Thank you and I am looking forwarding to seeing the
"Old" Old Timers.

CRIME WATCH

Interested in joining our Crime Watch Unit.
For more information call Bernie Kozlowski.
There is a sign up sheet in the clubhouse.
We need volunteers.

KIND OF COMMUNITY WE ARE
Our degree of "Volunteerism" is at an all time high! We
have an outstanding community and it shows.
Terry Jansen hosted the annual Easter celebration. She
called it an "Easter Brunch". The tables were heavy with
goodies. Soup, meats, cheeses, fruit salad and much
more. Even bread from Holland. The dessert table was
to die for. But, she didn't do it alone! She had a
multitude of volunteers. Each and every one made the
day extra special.
Karen Sammons hosted a most delightful Tea and
Fashion Show. The clubhouse was transformed into a
cozy tea house. The tables were beautifully set with
china cups and tea pots. The models were elegant and
graceful. Cucumber sandwiches, fruit cups, and chicken
salad were the main fare. Dessert consisted of a
plate full of mini goodies including scones, cakes, cookies
and bars. But, she didn't do it alone! She had a
multitude of volunteers. Kitchen helpers who prepared
and served the delicacies. Models, coordinators, set up
and clean ups crews and even our surprise male model!!
Each and every one of them made the day extra special.
The Yard sale would not have existed without a myriad of
volunteers. First of all, Mirta and Richie Harris organized
the entire event. Linda Otto, our Queen of Events, took on
the kitchen sales with the help of Joan and John Record
and their entire crew. Max and Sandi Russell grilled hot
dogs. Marge Putka and Grace Spiller handled the heavily
laden dessert table. Bill and Irene Kramer manned the
"Association Table". Plus many, many more willing and
helpful workers. None of them did it alone!
No, they had their dear friends and neighbors and a lot of
sweat and maybe even tears. Because, that is the kind of
community we are.

SPECIAL VOLUNTEERS
Bonnie Armitage does so much for the park I wonder if any
one realizes how much time is taken doing for Saddle Oak.
The wonderful printing of tickets and posters for events,
working the kitchen at numerous events, helping with
dancing and also she is a great field runner. What a great
asset she is to Saddle Oak
Linda Otto
Another Great Volunteer
For me the volunteer of the month is Carolyn Miller and her
husband Frank, they volunteered for 10 years and they
retired from the job. The last party they worked for was the
Easter brunch.
Thank you both for all the work you did for all of us.
Terry Jansen
THANK YOU’S
Easter Brunch.
I would like to thank all the Easter Bunnies who helped
with the Easter brunch: Linda, Carolyn, Toots, Kathy, Jo,
Diane, Alivia. Of course, without them, I could never had
done it. Also Karen for the decorations, thank you. All the
wonderful people who baked their goodies for dessert.
And don't forget the cleaning crew!!!
You were all wonderful!!!! It was my first event and without
all the volunteers it never would have taken place. Thank
also to the association for sponsoring this event.
Terry Jansen
YARD SALE
I wish to thank all the drivers and people that loaned us
gofl carts, to make this year's "YARD SALE" a very successful
one. A special thank you to the members
of our Crime Watch Unit that did an excellent job directing
traffic. Also a thank you to Marion County Sheriff's COPS
Unit for directing traffic off Rte 200.
Once again thank you, thank you.
Bernie Kozlowski
YARD SALE
What a wonderful job everyone did in putting the
yard sale together and making it so successful.
I would like to than the following:
Max and Sandi Russell for running the hot dog concession
and selling so many hot dogs
The kitchen would not have happened without
John Record and his helpers, Jo Gearin, Ann Sandor,
Tammy Hornsby, Diana Germain, Kathryn Sitkowski,
and Jeannie Kozlowski
The bake sale run by Marge Putka, Grace Spiller,
Joan Ford, Barbara McKeen and the volunteers for the
baked goods.
The wonderful cake baked and raffled off by Dorthea
Wiley.
The Saddle Oak association table ran by Bill and
Irene Kramer.
The 50/50 run Bunnye Brinson.
Library book sale by Diane and David Anderson.
Association sales by Frank Ruck.
The wonderful job that Rich and Mirta Harris did in
organizing the event and all the people that helped her:
Harold Whitenour, Tony Pace, Mary Sitkowski, Mike
Dougherty, and Frank Miller.
Lets also thank Bernie Kozlowski and his drivers
and the Sherriff's department for the wonderful job of
taking care of traffic.
Bonnie Armitage for the great job of working the
yard sale and taking orders and delivering food.
Without all these wonderful volunteers none of this
would be possible.
I would also like to thank Jimmy Wescott saving the
day above and beyond the call of duty What a hero
you are Jimmy.
Linda Otto

Another Thank You
Following my recent emergency operation and hospitalization
stay, I became aware of what a close-knit community
we really are. I truly am grateful to all for the visits,
phone calls, cards, flowers, gifts and food deliveries.
Many thanks to the Association for the Publix gift card
delivered by our ever faithful sunshine Lady, Fran. Love
to you all.
Gladys Ouinette
Thank you Easter Bunny
Recently I looked out the door and there on our bannister
was hanging a purple ribbon with a green plastic
egg attached to it. Upon opening the egg much to our
delight it was filled with candy. A day or two later I
heard that an angel by the name of Alivia had delivered
these eggs to several residents here in Saddle Oak.
Thank you Alvia for leaving such a nich surprise at our
house. You deserve a large jewel on your crown of
love for such a wonderful gesture.
Fran and Jim Fritz
Thanks Everyone
Thank you Saddle Oak Residents and Saddle Oak
Association for the many cards, gifts, and condolences
as I, and my family, suffered the loss of my sweet wife,
and their Mother, Shirley. Thank you Saddle Oak for
being so caring. Clayton Cummings and Family
More Thanks
I would like to thank Sandy Fedak for asking me to sit
at her table at the Tea Party and Fashion Show.
Sandy’s table was so elegantly down and I got to sit
with many Saddle Oak ladies I had not seen for a while.
All of the tables looked so nice and Karen Sammons
did such a nice job of hosting this event. Thank you
Sandy and a huge thank you to Karen and her helpers
for doing such a great job of making such a success of
the day.

Joys of a Hospital Stay
by Marjorie Banczak
With "tongue in cheek" I submit this article on "life in the
hospital"
Ever spend any time in the hospital? It's not a sojourn
in a vacation resort, although it probably costs more.
Nights are a special joy! As you finally drift off to sleep,
suddenly every bright light in the room comes on. It's
enough to stop your heart. There stands a nurse
armed with needles, test tubes, band aids and a forceful
attitude. She's ready to stab you again with her
blood sucking needle. Sometimes one stab isn't
enough, got to go for it again. After several tubes of
fresh blood she withdraws, forgetting to turn out lights
and leaves the door open.
Just try to get back to sleep.
Morning comes much too soon with another arrival of
stabbers and blood suckers. They are followed by
blood pressure and finally breakfast. It's cold except
for the lukewarm oatmeal which is served with skim
milk. French toast may have been good hours ago, but
now it's cold and doesn't make the grade.
Other meals lack flavor and seasoning, but who's happy.
Personal hygiene is a lost cause. Change the sheets,
but don't wash the dirty body going back into bed.
Maybe a cold wet wash cloth to clean up your hands
and face. But only now and then.
Let's compare ICU with regular care. In ICU your every
move and body function is carefully monitored. But
back in regular care, its "You're on your own kid!"
My apologies to a kind and dedicated hospital staff for
the "tongue in cheek" humor. But then, hospital stays
are not meant to be fun!
